REACH
What is REACH?
Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006, of the European Parliament and the Council of 18 December 2006 concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH).
REACH has been introduced by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) as a means to more effectively monitor and control the import of chemicals into the EU. It aims to ensure that all manufacturers and importers identify any ‘substances of very high concern’ (SVHC) in articles entering the EU, in order to control and limit the risks that these chemicals pose to human health and the environment.
Producers and importers of articles have to notify ECHA if any article contains any of these substances in higher quantities than 0.1% by weight – or if they are imported in quantities of more than 1 tonne per year per manufacturer.
What do we do?
In BESTSELLER we have a comprehensive and continually updated list of substances that are either forbidden from use during all stages of production, or restricted in the finished product. Our Chemical Restrictions are signed by all suppliers and effectively implemented and controlled throughout our supply chain through our globally-based quality control departments. We ensure that our suppliers receive regular training on controlling the use of chemicals in production – and we perform a high number of chemical tests on finished garments as an extra precaution.
We place a high focus on the importance of the Chemical Restrictions – which were developed based on a concern for the safety of our customers, the working conditions inside the factories producing our goods, the preservation of the environment, as well as laws and legislation – and we are continually working to ensure that our products do not contain any substances of very high concern.
