Do you often experience child labour in the factories?
No, today child labour rarely occurs in the factories exporting products. According to Bestseller’s Code of Conduct you have to be 15 years of age to work in a factory that produces for us. The reality today is often that many factories do not employ people under the age of 18. In Bestseller, we have written down a “Child Labour Policy” which must secure what is best for the child in case that we should run into an employee who is not old enough.
How do you make sure that your suppliers live up to Bestseller’s Code of Conduct?
We have hired inspectors at Bestseller’s local buying offices who are responsible for visiting the factories and thereby make sure that a consistant improvement of the conditions in the factories takes place.
In addition to this we also get audits at our biggest suppliers made by external auditing companies.
Do you stop your co-operation with a supplier who does not live up to Bestseller’s Code of Conduct?
To begin with we make an action plan with deadlines for the necessary improvements. These deadlines are determined in close co-operation with the supplier. If a supplier repeatedly do not comply with the agreements made, an ending of the co-operation can be the consequence.
Do you do business with Burma?
No, we have chosen not to do business with Burma due to the political situation in the country.
Do the prints on your clothes contain phthalates?
No, Bestseller has not allowed the use of phthalates since 2002. Likewise, a number of other substances, which are suspected to be harmful to health, are not allowed in our products.
Do you use real fur in your products?
No, at Bestseller, we have not used any kind of real fur since 2003. We make products of leather when the leather comes from animals which are part of a food production.
Do you accept mulesing?
No, we condemn mulesing, which is traditionally used on merino sheep in Australia, and we are therefore looking for alternative solutions for all future products.
