PRESS RELEASE – BESTSELLER – CHARITY DONATION
Bestseller and six of its brands donate DKK 2.2 million (approx. €300,000) to earthquake victims in Haiti and development projects for women in Africa through the national Danish fundraising campaign “Danmarks Indsamling”.
The brands Jack & Jones, name it, ONLY, Pieces accessories, Vero Moda and VILA each contribute with DKK 200,000, while Bestseller provides DKK 1 million.
“In Bestseller we see it as a natural obligation to help others. Usually, we channel our attention and donations through our own relief and deveolpment agencies – the Bestseller Fund and CSR Capital”, Anders Holch Povlsen, Bestseller CEO, explains.
“However, in situations like this, when hundreds of thousands of people are in need of help, we feel obliged to help out where we can. Furthermore, the "Africa project" goes well with Bestseller's aid philosophy of sustainable and long-term projects, so it was only natural for us to support this initiative”, he finishes.
As such, supporting development and relief projects around the world is nothing new for Bestseller. Right now this includes projects in China, India and parts of Africa:
- The Bestseller Fund runs all the development projects, like micro-credit banking in India and village infrastructure projects in China.
- CSR Capital provides financial means for small and medium sized businesses in the above regions, helping them to become self-sufficient and sustainable businesses. Thus, the investments not just benefit a few people, but an entire community.
The fundraising campaign will culminate with a large donation show on national Danish television (DR1). One half of the donations will be earmarked for relief aid and reconstruction in Haiti following the severe earthquake that hit the small island nation earlier this month. The other half of the donation will go to development projects in Africa under the heading “Africa’s women – Africa’s future”.
The show will air on channel DR1 this Saturday – 30 January 2010 at 7 PM.
