New winner for Bestseller’s “Denmark’s Olympic Hope” award announced.

The talented young swimmer Rikke Møller Pedersen was announced the winner of Bestseller’s award “Denmark’s Olympic Hope” 2009 at the annual Danish sports awards this Saturday.

“Our employees have voted for Rikke, and along with her outstanding sporting achievements during the past 12 months, Rikke has won the award due to her ambitions, her winning mentality, her will, and the way she emerges as a whole person” says communication manager at Bestseller, Bo Terp.

Along with the award comes a financial support from Bestseller on DKK 100,000 including a clothes sponsorship to help pave the way for Rikke’s future goal of an Olympic medal at the 2012 Games in London.

“I’m so proud and honoured to win this award. It really means a lot to get that kind of recognition, and at the same time I am sure it will make things easier on my way to realizing my dream of an Olympic medal” said a smiling Rikke after receiving the award Saturday night in Messecenter Herning.

During the past 12 months Rikke has secured all 6 Danish Records in breaststroke and set 6 European Records in 100m and 200m.

Rikke (see picture) was voted the winner by Bestseller employees based in Denmark in close competition with lightweight rower Henrik Stephansen (see picture) and up-coming high jumper Janick Klausen.

Former winners of the award include:
2008: Emil Stær (kayak rower)
2007: Lotte Friis (swimmer)
2006: Sara Slott Petersen (hurdler)
