Below milestones have been outlined to provide an overview of our core focus areas.

Our Code of Conduct is formulated and launched. The Code describes the ethics and behavior that we wish to promote throughout the supply chain and is directed at any supplier and subcontractor who manufacture products for us. The Code includes areas like: working environment, social responsibility, environment and animal welfare. Our Code is not a static document but is being updated regularly to continuously reflect our knowledge in regard to responsible supplier management.

In addition to our Code of Conduct we initiated an audit programme aiming at monitoring our suppliers’ ability to comply with our Code of Conduct. Through the audits we can identify potential focus areas that require improvement and hereby lead the supplier in a more sustainable and responsible direction. Initially, audits were conducted by our own internal team, but today most audits are conducted by third party auditing companies. An estimated 500 audits have been conducted by third party auditors, and 380 audits have been made by BESTSELLER colleagues this year.

As a part of our intensified focus on the environment and the use of chemicals in clothing production, we launched BESTSELLER’s Chemical Restrictions. The restrictions explain our requirements for proper chemical management including hazardous/restricted chemicals. They are updated on a regular basis in order to include the latest knowledge and to continuously comply with international standards and regulations.

We participated in the founding of the multi-stakeholder initiative, Danish Ethical Trading Initiative (DIEH). The initiative unites companies, business organisations, trade unions and NGOs in a unique cooperation to find sustainable solutions to the ethical challenges and dilemmas companies face when doing business with the developing countries and some of the new growth economies.

2008 The ‘We care’
booklets are launched

The ‘We Care’ booklets (We Care about You, Your Working Hours & Wages, Your Health and Your Colleagues) were formulated to inform the factory workers about their rights and responsibilities. More than 60,000 booklets have been distributed at factories in Turkey and China.

The Better Supplier Programme was initiated to support our suppliers in the development of their business and in their effort in complying with our Code of Conduct as well as in improving their sustainable performance. Supplier training continues to be an integral part of our sustainability work in the future.

We launched our Better Buying Programme to create awareness on our buying practices and how these are linked to the demands we set in our Code of Conduct. Further integration of our sustainability work into our business and brands through a close cooperation will continue to help promote responsible buying practices as well as increase the sourcing of more sustainable materials.

BESTSELLER’s Corporate Compliance department was established to further safeguard that the internal and external rules, laws and regulations are followed by BESTSELLER colleagues. The main focus areas are within product safety management and dealing with The Danish Competition Authority.
